Question 1

How many lux are needed in an industrial environment?

Accepted Answer

According to the UNE-EN 12464-1 standard, a transit zone usually requires between 100 and 200 lux, a warehouse around 200 to 300 lux, and a work or production area between 300 and 750 lux, while precision tasks can exceed 750 or even 1,000 lux.

Question 2

What color temperature is best for industrial lighting?

Accepted Answer

In most industrial installations, 4000K is used as the standard for its balance, while in technical zones or those with high visual requirements, 5000K or 6000K are used to maximize visibility.

Question 3

What does the IP rating mean in industrial lighting?

Accepted Answer

The IP rating indicates protection against dust and water, with IP65 being the standard level in industry as it guarantees dust-tightness and resistance to water jets, while higher levels such as IP66 or IP67 are reserved for more demanding conditions.

Question 4

How much can be saved with industrial LED lighting?

Accepted Answer

Switching to LED allows for a reduction in consumption of between 50% and 70% compared to metal halides and around 40% to 60% compared to fluorescence, to which is added a reduction in maintenance that can reach 70%.

Question 5

Is the uniformity of lighting important?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in industrial environments, a minimum uniformity of 0.4 to 0.6 is recommended in general zones and close to 0.7 in work areas, since lower values generate contrasts that affect safety and performance.

Question 6

What is the useful life of industrial LED lighting?

Accepted Answer

Industrial LED luminaires usually offer between 50,000 and 100,000 hours of L70 useful life, which in a usage of 12 hours daily equates to approximately between 10 and 20 years.

Question 7

Can an existing installation be improved without changing all the luminaires?

Accepted Answer

Yes, through retrofit solutions it is possible to reduce consumption by between 30% and 60% while maintaining the existing luminaire, although in large installations complete replacement usually offers better performance in the medium term.
